“We hit a major milestone this year as we signed an agreement with our first sponsor in Cameroon”
-Paul Dreisbach
Crevette becomes the first official brand partner of Petrichor! Crevette is a local clothing and lifestyle brand in Yaoundé Cameroon and has been growing quickly over the last few years. We noticed the rise of the brand and quality of the design immediately. After a few successfull collaborations, Petrichor and Crevette led by founder Jedidiah took the natural next step in an official sponsorship agreement.
This is a HUGE deal for both parties as it represents collaboration, economic development and local business seeing the value in sporting partnerships. This will help with our Division 2 club as they ramp up for the inaugural season which Crevette will feature on the kits.
Working with Cameroonian businesses and brands means a lot to Petrichor as it is one our income streams within our sustainability plan. This partnership goes beyond paper and agreements into alignment. This was clear from the beginning as we could tell right away that Jedidiah was a mature and responsible leader with great experience and a passion for impact.
Here is some of Jedidiah’s story about himself and the evolution of the brand - we hope you enjoy! check out his Instagram and products!
Born in Cameroon, self-taught designer and founder of Crevette, Jedidiah Ntep’s passion for creativity and design lead him to starting fashion brand. Ntep has always had a love for arts but did not have enough information on how to bring his creativity to life.
“I am a self-taught designer, thinker and founder of Crevette, an apparel and lifestyle brand based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. With focus on craftsmanship and quality, I’ve worked with notable clients such as RFIS, YANGO Cameroon, and SIL Cameroon. I’ve also been lucky enough to design logos for organizations like Mairie de Foumban and RFIS Athletics. I've always had a passion for creativity and design, and been fortunate enough to turn that passion into a business,” he said.
Ntep’s father who is a staunch Christian moved across countries a lot when he was a child and through this, the designer was exposed to different cultures where he found his arts purpose and ended up turning it into a profitable business.
“I was raised in a Christian family, and my father was heavily involved in the Church, traveling across the country for missions. As a result, I had a sense of looking for purpose in life.
It wasn't until I moved to Johannesburg, South Africa in 2011 that I discovered my passion for visual arts and design. I learnt the skills I needed to create beautiful designs and started designing t-shirts for my band and later on for my church. That was my first step into the world of design, and it was quite exciting at the time,” he explained.
After returning to his country of birth, Cameroon, Ntep started working for different companies as a web designer. He, however always had a passion for entrepreneurship and finally decided to take a leap of faith and eventually started Crevette.
Crevette is more than just a clothing brand. It's a way for me to share my love of design and creativity with the world. The name "Crevette" is French for shrimp, and it's a nod to the origins of the name Cameroon. I wanted to create something that would flow out into the world, just like shrimp flow out from the river into the ocean,” he explained.
Ntep’s long term dream is to open at arts centre that will be used to train young art enthusiasts in different parts of Africa to use their talent to make profits. He hopes to achieve this by turning Crevette into a million-dollar business.
“The goal for Crevette is to be among the leading apparel brands in Africa by 2035. I want to collaborate with other African businesses to create mutually beneficial projects. I also want to develop an arts and technology center where we can detect and develop the unused creative talent that you find in several young Africans like myself. Offering free training to those who can't afford arts school. In 2023 the clothing and accessories market in Africa will grow to over 5 billion USD. Crevette has the opportunity to grow into a multi-million-dollar company,” he elaborated.
His passion for giving back, especially in Cameroon has seen the young designer sponsoring youth football clubs. He says he hopes he can make a difference in young players lives in the country.
“I'm also passionate about giving back to my community. That's why I've chosen to sponsor a youth football club. Cameroon has a rich Football culture, and I believe that working with a youth football club is one of the best opportunities for exposure to the world. Even though I'm not the biggest football fan, this path offers a lot of development and growth possibilities for the business and myself,” he added.
Due to similar values and passion for helping children, Ntep decided to partner with Petrichor Football.
“I've partnered with Petrichor because of our shared values like hard work, honesty, fairness, and having fun. They reached out about a year ago, and we've been working together ever since. The passionate nature of their managing team is remarkable, they also love the work that CREVETTE puts out, and so it's a perfect fit. I believe that our partnership will bring many benefits to us,” he said.
“In the future, I hope to see Petrichor grow bigger and make a dent in the African Football universe. That would mean a lot of success and exposure for the brand as well. I also hope to create jobs for the kids who don’t continue on the football route, and I'd love to sponsor the club in more ways than we're doing now. Overall, I'm excited about the future and the many possibilities that lie ahead for Crevette and Petrichor,” he concluded.
